Affiliate Disclosure

CatVerge writes about equipment people spend real money on. That makes it fair for you to ask how the site makes money, and what that does to what you read here. This page answers it, and it gets updated the day the answer changes.

As things stand today

There are currently no affiliate links on CatVerge. Nothing on this site earns a commission when you click it or buy through it.

There are also no advertisements, no sponsored posts, and no paid placements. Nothing in any guide has been bought.

I would rather write that sentence while it is true and change it honestly later than leave a vague disclosure sitting here as insurance.

If that changes

A site that covers products people buy will often, sooner or later, use affiliate links — links where the retailer pays a small commission on a sale, at no extra cost to you. If CatVerge ever does that, these rules apply, and this page will be rewritten to describe exactly what is running rather than what might.

You will be told before you click, not after.

This page will name the specific programmes in use, and will be updated at the same time the links go live — not weeks later.
Any guide containing affiliate links will say so clearly at the top, before the recommendations, where you'll actually see it.
Affiliate links will never be disguised as ordinary links.

It will not cost you anything. An affiliate commission is paid by the retailer out of their margin. You pay the same price you would pay going direct.

It will not change what I recommend. This is the part that actually matters, so it is worth being concrete about what it means:

Commission rates play no part in what gets recommended, what gets ranked first, or what gets covered at all. If the product I think you should buy pays nothing, that is still the product I'll tell you to buy.
I write about what fails. That does not become negotiable because a link earns money. A negative verdict on a product that pays a commission is still a negative verdict.
Where the honest answer is "don't buy this category at all" — and for some households, a disciplined manual routine genuinely beats a mediocre automatic box — that answer stays available. Sometimes the right recommendation earns nothing, and that has to be fine or the whole site is worthless.
The cat comes first. A device that is convenient for you and bad for your cat does not get recommended at any commission rate.

Coverage is not for sale

Separately from affiliate links, and regardless of what happens with them:

No brand can pay for a recommendation, a rating, a review, or a place in a buying guide.
If a manufacturer ever provides a product for testing, that will be stated plainly inside the guide it appears in — you will not have to come to this page to find it out.
Being given a device buys coverage that is honest. It does not buy coverage that is kind.

Why I'm telling you this now

The point of a disclosure is not to satisfy a rule. It is so you can read a recommendation and know what is behind it.

If you are ever reading a guide here and wondering whether I'm telling you to buy something because it's right for your home or because it pays, that question should have an answer you can check — and the answer should be on the page you're already reading. That is what these rules are for.
